Here you find a beautiful pottery example from Canosa, Italy of the type you would find in a museum. Large lidded, double-spouted askos from the Native Italic community that existed along side both the Greeks and Etruscans in the period between the 8th to the 4th century B.C. This example would date to approx. the 4th century B.C., during the time the Ancient Greeks were producing their red-figure wares in Athens and Southern Italy. Decorated with traditional floral bands in brown and red pigments. It has twin large spouts emerging vertically from the round base. Pieces with a strainer are very typical of Canosan pieces. Measures 8-3/4" wide x 10-1/2" tall. It is remarkably intact and for the finest collection of ancient art!
