Red-Figure Apulian Stamnoid Pyxis from the TPS Group. A very rare form for a pyxis, knob handle now missing from lid and has a nice red wash over the reserve area. The details of the female of fashion are done in white and yellow. The lid has a spoke patter with elongated stripes and Chevron pattern just underneath the rim. Small handles done in black and femal figures framed by the typical South Italian palmette. Stands on a small pedestal foot. Measuring 4.5 inches. Slight mineral deposits in some areas else in perfect condition.
"The term stamnoid is used in RVAp to indicate two different miniature shapes, one which has only vestigial handles practically stuck onto the shoulder and rim of the vessel and a second which has upright handles, something like in a lebes gamikos, but not as obvious". Gil Goldfine
