Ancient Greek Xenon skyphos with wide open mouth and intact strap handles. Scroll design around the entire body and a palm leaf style design further up. Nice black glaze with some areas of iridescence. Small chip on the body otherwise intact. Dates to the 4th century BC and measures 5.5 inches in diameter (from handle to handle).
This type of "Greek" ceramic is classified as Xenon ware as was named after a similar kantharos that is found in the Frankfurt Museum and has inscribed in it the word "XENON". This pottery is a combination of native Greek (Attic) pottery and that of southern Italian Greek manufacturing technique.
