Lovely decorated pottery head cup depicting a semi-abstract human head having an open toothy mouth and slightly protruding tongue. Dark geometric painted decoration surround his eyes shows Wari influence. Pottery head is depicted wearing a wide headband with painted crosshatched decoration, with a red string tie in the center. Has some scattered mineral deposits and light encrustation on the surface. Minor rim flake, otherwise intact and in excellent condition. Dates to circa 400 to 600 AD and measure 4.8 inches high.

Provenance: Ex. Private American collection, acquired late 1960s to early 1970s. To present owner by descent.
